Man suffers facial injuries in suspected stabbing during Sunderland disturbance

A 27-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of assault after a man suffered injuries to his face in a suspected stabbing.

The incident reportedly occurred after an argument broke out between a group of men, who were known to each other, at a property in The Grove, Sunderland, on Sunday evening (November 21).

Officers, who were called to the scene at 9.34pm, found a man had suffered facial injuries which were ‘consistent with having been caused by a bladed article’.

His injuries were not life-threatening but the man was taken to hospital.

Northumbria Police has now confirmed a 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail.

Detectives are now appealing for anyone with any information about the incident to come forward.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 9.34pm on Saturday (November 21) we received a report of a disturbance inside an address on The Grove, Sunderland.

“It was reported that an argument had broken out between a group of men who were known to each other.

“Officers attended and found a man with non-life threatening facial injuries consistent with having been caused by a bladed article. He was subsequently taken to hospital.

“An investigation has been launched into the incident. A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and has since been released on police bail.
