Man suffered serious burns to his face in house fire as woman arrested on suspicion of cannabis production

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of last night’s fire (Thursday, July 2) which has caused significant damage to the house in Rosedale Terrace, Horden.
A man in his 20s suffered serious facial burns and was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary where he remains in a ‘serious but stable condition’.

Hide AdLast night, a woman in her 30s was arrested also on suspicion of being concerned in the production of cannabis and remains in police custody today (Friday, July 3) being questioned by detectives.
Emergency services rushed to the fire, which is believed to have started in the kitchen, at around 10.10pm on Thursday.
A police cordon remained in place around the property this morning with a lone police van parked outside.

Hide AdA Durham Constabulary spokesman said: “The investigation is in its initial stages and at this point it is too early to speculate on the cause of the fire.
“At approximately 10.15pm last night we were alerted by our colleagues at County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service to reports of a fire at a residential property in Rosedale Terrace, Horden.
“Officers attended the scene and discovered a man in his mid-20s suffering from serious facial burns who was taken to hospital. He is currently in a serious but stable condition in the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle.
“A joint police and fire service investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire, which caused significant damage to the property.

Three fire engines, a double-crewed ambulance, specialist paramedic and a hazardous area response team were also called to the incident.
The fire was extinguished at around 10.40pm.
