Man appears in court after Washington crash leaves 29-year-old fighting for his life
A man is to appear at crown court charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Lee Owens is accused of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident and failure to report an accident.
The charges relate to a crash in Sulgrave Road, Washington, on Sunday afternoon, June 20, in which a silver Ford Mondeo left the road and collided with a tree.
A 29-year-old man, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Owens, 35, of Newriggs, Fatfield, Washington, appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates Court today, Tuesday, June 22.
Magistrates declined jurisdiction on the case and it was committed to Newcastle Crown Court on July 20.
Owens, who appeared in the dock wearing a grey sweatshirt, was bailed on condition he resides at his mother’s address in County Durham, does not enter Washington and does not contact prosecution witnesses.
