Car damaged after crashing into bus stop and through barriers

A car was badly damaged after ploughing into a bus stop and through crash barriers in Sunderland.

The incident happened in Kier Hardie Way in Southwick at around 8.30pm last night, Saturday, July 17.

A witness said the vehicle had crashed into a bus stop and through barriers before coming to a stop after clipping a lamppost.

"The damage is bad to the railings and to the bus stop opposite,” he added.

It is not known if anyone was hurt.

Northumbria Police have been contacted for more details.
