Attacker still at large one month after Newbottle masked rape as police renew appeal for information

Detectives have confirmed no further arrests after a woman was raped by a masked man at her Newbottle home one month ago.

Northumbria Police has thanked everyone who has come forward with information following the appalling and random attack which took place between 10.30pm and 10.40pm.

As inquiries continue, detectives are appealing for anyone with any details which could help the investigation to contact police.

A 29-year-old man was arrested and questioned and has been released under investigation – but Northumbria Police say he remains a person if interest.

A 36-year-old man was also arrested but has since been released with no further action.

No further arrests have been made in connection with the sexual assault.

Speaking to the Echo in the days after the attack, Detective Chief Inspector Louise Cass-Williams, who is leading the investigation, said: "Members of the community may think that the information they have is insignificant and I can assure them it is not.

"We wish to hear from them and let us establish what information they have so please so contact us.

"The most important thing is to ensure we identify this person and we bring that person to justice as swiftly as possible."
