Arrested men released after investigation into handgun call-out in Sunderland

Three men arrested by Northumbria Police following a handgun report in Sunderland have been released with no further action.

Emergency services were called to the city’s Belvedere Road on Sunday, August 16 following reports of someone with a handgun inside a property.

Following a search – after which police initially said a weapon was recovered – three men were arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

The men have since been released with no further action. Police say no criminal offence was committed, and officers are now satisfied that no firearm was present at the address.

A force spokesman said on Tuesday, August 25: “A full and thorough investigation has been carried out and officers are satisfied that no criminal offences had been committed.

“The three arrested men have since been released with no further action to be taken.”
