Here are 11 people jailed or handed suspended sentences during January for offences in and around Sunderland.
They were all dealt with at Newcastle Crown Court unless otherwise stated.
9. James Dixon
Dixon, 49. of Ransome Gardens, Edinburgh, denied raping a schoolgirl in Sunderland almost 30 years ago but was convicted after a trial and jailed for eight years.
10. Antoni Adams
Adams, 33, of no fixed address, denied possessing a bladed article but was convicted by magistrates after a trial.
He was sent to Newcastle Crown Court for sentence, where Judge Penny Morland jailed him for nine months.
11. Michael Foster
Foster, 34, of Coach Road Estate, Washington, admitted eight charges of conspiracy to supply class C drugs and one of conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office and was jailed for two years and four months
12. Deborah Foster
Foster, 53, of Striding Edge, Washington, admitted five charges of conspiracy to supply class C drugs and one of conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office and was jailed for 18 months
