Sunderland's much-loved Ashbrooke fireworks display to be brought back with a bang, thanks to Red Sky Foundation
A much-loved fireworks display which was lost to Sunderland is being brought back, thanks to the Red Sky Foundation.
Ashbrooke Sports Club’s annual fireworks display regularly attracted hundreds of visitors.
But 2017’s event was cancelled in the face of increasing competition from free displays and no further shows have taken place since.
Now, with the club under new management, the decision has been taken to join forces with the heart health charity and bring back the tradition.

The ‘Red Sky Foundation’s Fireworks Extravaganza’ will take place on Bonfire Night itself, Tuesday, November 5.
The dazzling display will start at 8.15pm and, of course, no Ashbrooke fireworks would be complete without a rousing musical accompaniment.
As well as the fireworks, there will be a range of family friendly activities to take part in from 4pmm, with fairground rides for all age groups, street food vendors, Heineken pop up bars, a mulled wine stall, live entertainment and crowd karaoke.
Red Sky founder Sergio Petrucci MBE said: “When the opportunity to re-launch the fireworks display at Ashbrooke Sport Club was mentioned, we couldn’t say no.
“It has always been an event that the community looked forward to, so we’re excited to bring it back better than ever before.”
Ashbrooke’s Andy Trafford added: “We’re delighted to be bringing our loved and much-missed public firework display back.
“The club has been going through some changes in recent times and nothing demonstrates our shift in strategy more than to partner with Red Sky on something big and bold like this.
“Red Sky Foundation have been a pleasure to work with and we know the event will be more extravagant than ever before – it’s certainly not going to be a run-of-the-mill firework show that’s for sure.
“Most of us are just as excited about the crowd karaoke.
“As a sports club, we are all about community, health and wellness so Red Sky Foundation were the ideal charity to partner with on this event and we hope the Sunderland public can continue to raise vital funds for the superb work they do.”
Adult tickets are £7.50, child tickets are £5.00 and under-2s can go free.
The ticket sales will help raise funds for Red Sky Foundation to help support babies, children and adults with complex heart problems. The charity provides support in many different ways such as placing defibrillators in local communities, investing in state-of-the-art heart transplant machinery, counselling and financial support for families affected by complex heart issues.
Tickets can be purchased online from https://www.trybooking.com/uk/DYXS or the Red Sky Foundation website events page.
