Historic pieces from Durham Cathedral could be yours as they go up for auction
Desks, dining chairs and pews from the cathedral
Historic furniture from Durham Cathedral is going under the hammer at an auction in the North East.

Specialists at Anderson & Garland Auctioneers are offering a selection of furnishings and fixtures and they will be up for grabs on Tuesday, November 3.
The property is included in Anderson & Garland’s Homes & Interiors Auction which begins at 10am.

The 44 lots are made up of 27 pews in stained pine and oak, eight oak uplighters, five early 20th century oak display cases, two 19th century clerk's desks, a 19th century lectern and a pair of Georgian style dining chairs.
Joseph Robert O'Donnell, the Marketing Manager at Anderson & Garland Ltd said the display cases come from the Cathedral's former dormitory, which was converted into a library and archive and now forms part of its museum space.

The auction lots are expected to fetch between £50 to £800 at auction, with the pews starting at £100.
Begun in 1093, Durham Cathedral is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of Norman architecture in Europe. It was built to house the shrine of St Cuthbert and is also the resting place of the Venerable Bede. Together with Durham Castle, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986. It remains a working cathedral and the seat of the Bishop of Durham and welcomes visitors from around the world.
Its setting has also made it a popular filming location. The cloisters and Chapter House appeared as Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Mr O’Donnell added: “Anderson & Garland is proud to be donating its services for this sale, with the full hammer price of every lot going directly to Durham Cathedral to support its continuing work.”
