Trevor Shingler opens new funeral services in Sunderland offering cost effective plans to suit everyone

Trevor has a long history of working in the funeral profession in the north east and wants to use his expertise to deliver a personal, bespoke service.
He said: “I decided to set up my own funeral business because I saw the need for funerals to be delivered in a cost-effective way while retaining all the dignity and respect a family would want for their loved one.
“We are able to keep costs down because we source the best value – whether that be the coffin, the hearse, the flowers or the order of service. But it is the personal touch that really matters to me because I am doing this to help and support grieving families, not to take advantage of them in their hour of need.

“I often start by asking relatives what their budget is and then aim to get as far below that figure as possible. We only offer what is actually needed and our motto is Dignity, Integrity, Affordability.”
Counselling
Trevor works with his wife Gayle, who is a bereavement counsellor and a key part of what the firm offers.
He added: “There are a lot of people who are, obviously, very upset and can benefit from counselling. It is a really important part of what we do and something we think will be a real help.”

Recognised experience
Having a wealth of experience has allowed Trevor and Gayle to tailor the business in a family-centred, rather than corporate, way.
In 2021 Trevor was elected a Fellow of the Society of Bereavement Practitioners, an independent professional organisation with members around the world, which recognises commitment and achievement across the spectrum of bereavement care and support.
And in 2022 he received the President's Award of Merit - the Society's highest award, which was given in recognition of Trevor's outstanding bereavement care and support of the families and individuals in his care, often in the most complex circumstances.
