Your tributes to five-year-old Sunderland girl Isla Wilkinson who passed away in mum’s arms

Isla, a Farringdon Primary School pupil from Plains Farm, was given just hours to live as her mum held her in her arms on Friday, December 6.

She tragically took ill on Tuesday, December 3 with a temperature and a cough.

She then sadly had difficulty breathing and her heart stopped for 20 minutes before she was resuscitated.

Isla was a Farringdon Primary School pupil.

On the morning of Thursday, December 5, her brain started to swell as she was in the care of Newcastle’s RVI nurses and her family.

Tragically, Isla passed away at around 5pm on Friday, December 6 in the children’s intensive care unit.

Since hearing the heartbreaking news, hundreds of tributes have flooded in from Echo readers.

Pat Anne Stewart commented: “So so sad. My twin great granddaughters plays with her at Farringdon School! Fly high princess. Forever young! Thinking of all her family at this sad time.”

Joanna Kirsty Etheridge added: “There are no words as I myself am sat here crying as a mammy too of an Isla. It’s heartbreaking and unimaginable. Life is so unfair.”

Katie Fishburn said: “My heart breaks for you and your family. She is so beautiful and I can’t begin to imagine what you are going through. Sending my thoughts and love.”

Michelle Fletcher commented: “I've been following this story, hoping that something would change. Absolutely heartbreaking. R.I.P princess.”

Marcia and her brother Aiden had a strong bond.

Graham Donkin added: “God bless. So young, innocent and a full life ahead. Taken far too early. So heartbreaking.”

Marie Harper added: “My heart has just shattered reading this. Sleep tight princess. What a beautiful girl. So sad. Thinking of Isla’s family at this heartbreaking time.”

A Go Fund Me Page was set up by her family members when Isla became ill to help Alex organise the send-off her “beautiful princess” deserves.
