The Sunderland Airshow is set to take place online this year after the event had to be cancelled following the coronavirus pandemic.

Organisers have confirmed that a virtual airshow will take place between Friday, July 24 and Sunday, July 26 – the days on which the event was meant to be held.

When the airshow was cancelled in April, Sunderland City Council's Assistant Director of Culture and Events, Victoria French said it was a “difficult decision” to make.

Viewers will be able to watch performances from favourites such as The Red Arrows and the RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team.

A post on the official Sunderland Airshow Facebook page said: “As we enter the month of July our thoughts turn to the Sunderland Airshow weekend.

“This year we cant have our usual event so we're bringing the Airshow online to you.
