Prime Minister Boris Johnson told the nation on Monday, March 23, people can only leave the house for one short burst of exercise, such as a walk, run or cycle or for work, if that cannot be done from home.
The rules also state people can head out for necessities such as food and health reasons, with people advised to say 6ft away from others.

Hide AdMany businesses have asked people to pay by card rather than cash, with a range of measures set up to help customers and staff keep their distance and keep stores clean – including social distancing markers, protective screens at check outs and a change to opening hours.

The Range
The Silksworth Lane store is open from 9am to 6pm everyday except Sunday when it is open between 10.30am and 4.30pm.
A company spokesman said: “For the safety of other shoppers and staff, we ask that you keep a distance of at least 2m (6ft) apart and avoid physical contact as far as possible while shopping in store with us. We also request that, where possible, you pay by contactless card to reduce the risk of contamination.”
The Range has also continued to trade online but has warned that due to a significant increase in demand, some products may take longer to be delivered.

Hide AdStore opening hours differ individually but most stores in Sunderland are open between 9am and 6pm – for individual times see below.
The store has granted NHS staff a 10% discount if they show valid ID at the checkout.
Safety measures which have been introduced include perspex screens at checkouts, all colleagues have been given disposable gloves and tills now accept up to £45 contactless payment.
Shoppers are encouraged to use contactless where possible and maintain social distancing rules.

Tesco
Every Sunday, all the firm's stores will prioritise a browsing hour before checkout workers for NHS staff. They also have a priority hour for NHS staff from 9am to 10am on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Its shops, with the exception of Express stores, will priorities the elderly and most vulnerable from 9am to 10am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Sainbury’s
It has consolidated opening hours and all its supermarkets will be open from 8am to 8pm from Monday to Saturday, with Sunday hours still the same, as will its Local stores and petrol stations.
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, all its stores will dedicate 8am to 9am to serving elderly customers, disabled customers and carers.
NHS and social care workers will be able to shop for half an hour before they open, from Monday to Saturday.

It has asked people wishing to pay with cash to visit its self-service tills.
Asda
It has re-extended opening hours to 8am to 10pm, Monday to Saturday, after hours were originally reduced at the start of lockdown.

Hide AdIt too has prioritised access for NHS workers in larger stores every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8am to 9am and has put limits on buying certain products to help stock levels.
It says: “Where necessary, the number of customers in our stores will be limited at any one time so social distancing can be observed.”
Morrisons
Morrisons have introduced an NHS hour from 7am to 8am Monday to Saturday
Its cafes have changing to a takeaway service for all customers.
It’s North East stores are open from 8am to 8pm.
Iceland

Hide AdThe company has set up a list of questions and answers on its website, including details about changes to opening hours as well as how its delivery drivers can help those who are self-isolating.
Aldi
From Sunday, March 29, it is introducing dedicated browsing time for emergency workers 30 minutes before opening time, with eligible customers able to take priority at checkouts when they open and entry to stores during this time granted with relevant ID.
Store hours have now been re-extended and most stores close a 10pm.
Sunday opening hours remain unchanged in England.
Lidl
The company has said it has made some changes to the hours of a number of its stores – the details can be found here.

Marks and Spencer
It says: “All of our standalone food stores and Foodhalls in larger stores are open.
“We have reserved the first hour of trading on certain days for our older and vulnerable customers, and for our brilliant NHS workers.
“Our outlet stores that only sell clothing and homeware are temporarily closed, but you can still shop online.”
