Opening times and social distancing rules for Aldi stores in Sunderland

Aldi has announced new rules and safety precautions which are being rolled out across the stores in Sunderland.

The discount supermarket chain has announced a number of changes to opening hours, emergency services priority times and new safety measures to protect staff and customers following the coronavirus outbreak.

On Monday, March 23, Prime Minister Boris Johnson put the UK on lockdown – and told the public they must not leave their homes other than for a handful of ‘essential’ reasons.

These include travelling to and from work – where work is essential and cannot be done from home, shopping for necessary items, one form of exercise a day, to provide support for a vulnerable person or for a medical need.

When is the priority shopping time for emergency workers?

Aldi bosses announced that it is opening its stores for emergency service works in the NHS, Police and Fire service (with relevant ID) every Sunday between 9.30am and 10am. Checkouts will open at 10am as usual where emergency service staff will again get priority.

What changes are Aldi implementing during the crisis?

Bosses at the discount supermarket has told customers it may limit entry into the store at busy times to ensure that shoppers can adhere to the two-metre social distancing rules.

New safety measures including clear screens and two metre social distancing rule markers are being implemented at Aldi checkouts throughout the country.

Can customers use cash to pay for items?

Although the supermarket hasn’t banned the use of cash, bosses are asking customers to use contactless payments wherever possible.
