Eerie photos showing the empty streets of Sunderland as city entered lockdown two years ago

The streets of Sunderland were empty two years ago as the city conformed to a new way of life aimed at tackling the spread of coronavirus.

On Monday, March 23, 2020, the Government imposed new measures to restrict the movement of UK residents in an effort to combat COVID-19.

With residents only allowed to shop for food and exercise once a day and businesses and leisure facilities ordered to close, the streets of Sunderland became empty as the public adhered to the new regulations.
