Sainsbury’s confirms that one of its Sunderland stores will close later this year
and live on Freeview channel 276
The store, located on Station Road, is used by many in the local area however it will be closing down later in the year – with Sainsbury’s giving no definite closing date at the moment.
The supermarket chain have also revealed that all steps are being taken to find alternative roles within the company for those who are currently employed at the Fulwell store.

Hide AdCustomers are being urged to use the Sunderland North store or the East Boldon Local Sainsbury’s – both of which the chain say is a short drive away.
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said, “We have updated colleagues on the difficult decision to close our Fulwell store later this year and we are doing everything we can to find alternative roles within Sainsbury’s for those affected.
“Customers can continue to shop with us at a number of nearby stores. For example, Sunderland North and East Boldon Local are a short drive.”
Back in 2019, Sainsbury’s announced that they would be closing up to 15 supermarkets over the next two years, while opening a further 10 new stores over the next five years.
