The Seaburn sea front site, which is being built from shipping containers to make an enclosed village which can operate in all weather conditions, is due to welcome customers across the August bank holiday weekend.

With just six weeks to go until its opening towards the end of next month, 100 vacancies for roles such as bar staff, kitchen staff and coffee shop workers are now available with a host of independent food and drink businesses.

“Sunderland is gathering pace in its journey of transformation and we are pleased to be part of that process through investing in Stack Seaburn.

"It’s a special city and we are proud to be bringing our concept to the area.”

The venue was due to open in May until the coronavirus pandemic struck.

As well as the jobs created in August, the project has already seen hundreds of thousands of pounds pumped into the city economy with Sunderland construction business BRIMS having been appointed to build the venue and a range of locally based suppliers helping with associated works.

Councillor Graeme Miller, leader of Sunderland City Council, added: “Our phenomenal programme of investment, which is increasingly driven by the private sector, is delivering huge short and long-term benefits for our residents.

"Immediately, there is an advantage to Sunderland, as businesses based locally are appointed to build these fantastic new developments, and when they open, they not only create more opportunities for people to visit Sunderland and enjoy our city, but they create jobs in the process.”
