Burnwide WMC in Houghton was contacted today, Thursday, September 3, and told a man who had visited over the weekend had been confirmed to have Covid-19.

But secretary Mark Sandow said management had been reassured by health experts that enough time had passed that there was no longer any risk of infection.

The news comes after three Sunderland venues announced temporary closures after staff or customers tested positive for the virus.

The Peacock in Keel Square put out a statement today to say one member of staff has tested positive for the virus.

Ashbrooke Sports Club has also said one of its bar staff had tested positive and The Terrace in Green Terrace announced on Wednesday night it would be closing for a deep clean after a customer was confirmed to have the virus.

The sports club was due to reopen this evening, The Terrace tomorrow and The Peacock at the weekend.
