It said: “I regretfully inform you that one of our staff has tested positive for covid, thankfully they aren't severely ill, which is a huge relief.

“They noticed a change in tasting ability on Tuesday and did the right and responsible thing and booked a test, which came back positive within 24 hours.

"All staff that have been in direct contact are being tested or have been tested, needless to say we are extremely concerned and taken aback. Again, nobody is seriously ill at present, which at least is something positive.”

All visitors to the pub had been asked to sign a guest book and will now be contacted personally by the venue.

Extra measures will be taken before the pub reopens at the weekend.

Ashbrooke Sports Club put out a statement from its trustees to say a member of staff from its bar, who worked a shift on August 31, had also tested positive.

The statement reads: “On Wednesday 2nd September we were informed that the bar staff member had tested positive. The public health authorities were notified and staff who were on duty at the same time were contacted by them and are now isolating pending test results on them."
