Here’s a round up of some sun traps in Sunderland city centre to visit, in no particular order – and there’ll be more to come soon when the new bars open in Keel Square after they were granted outdoor seating licences. The fit out has already started on The Botanist, which may be the first to open.
9. Fitzgerald's, Green Terrace
An oldie, but a goodie, Fitzgerald's has been pulling pints for decades - it's also got a beer garden out the back with a laid back atmosphere. Photo: national world
10. Hidden, Green Terrace
The terrace at Hidden in Green Terrace is a great sun trap. The bar is open at weekends for live DJ sets. It also recently launched a bottomless brunch offer. Photo: Stu Norton
11. Port of Call, Park Lane
It's one of the largest bars in the city centre with a great food and drink offering and Port of Call is also a great shout if you want to sit outside with your drinks. Photo: national world
12. Manor Bar, Sunniside
Manor Bar is one in a number of good independent bars and restaurants to visit in the Sunniside quarter - with a sun trap beer garden at the front. Photo: national world
