Here’s a round up of some sun traps in Sunderland city centre to visit, in no particular order – and there’ll be more to come soon when the new bars open in Keel Square after they were granted outdoor seating licences. The fit out has already started on The Botanist, which may be the first to open.
5. The Cooper Rose
The Cooper Rose roof garden has one of the best views in the city overlooking the city centre skyline. It opened last year after a £2m refit of the well-known pub. Photo: Stu Norton
6. The Peacock
The Peacock has proved a great addition to the city centre with great food and live music. It also has a seated area at the front, which is particularly popular on match days. Photo: national world
7. Chaplins, Stockton Road
It's one of the city centre's most-popular pubs - and Chaplins also has outdoor seating that's a good people-watching spot. Photo: national world
8. Ttonic, Vine Place
