If you’re out and about in the city centre, we’ve rounded up some of the best places for a pit stop.
9. Coffee@The Bothy, John Street
Coffee@The Bothy opened over lockdown in a former estate agents and has plenty of space if you're out for coffee in a group or with your family. There's a good range of classic options at fair prices. The name is inspired by the owner's previous life in Scotland, as bothy is a Scottish colloquialism for a small hut, often in the mountains, in which people shelter from bad weather. 10. Biz-R, corner of High Street West and Fawcett Street
An oldie but a goodie, Biz-R, on the corner of High Street West and Fawcett Street, has been serving quality cuppas for years. You can also pick up smoothies and panini, with plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Photo: National world
11. The Rainbow Hub, West Sunniside
One of Sunderland's newest coffee shops, The Rainbow Hub, in West Sunniside, is a great addition to the area and, as well as serving coffees and cake, is a community hub for the city's LGBT community. Photo: Kevin Brady
12. Good Apple Cafe, Derwent Street
Good Apple Cafe in Derwent Street is the city's first dedicated 100% vegan cafe and there's some great choices on the menu, which changes regularly, such as sweet and sour cauli balls, falafel bowls and quiches.
