5. Scrantastic Family Food Festival, May 22-23

6. Kubix, July 2 & 3
Like all large-scale events, Kubix Festival had to cancel this year’s weekend of live music in Herrington Country Park in line with restrictions in place to limit the spread of Covid-19, but it’s managed to re-book many of its household name line-up for new dates on July 2 and 3, 2021. Acts announced so far include Vengaboys, 2 Unlimited, Ultra Nate, N-Trance and Culture Beat on the Friday and Levellers, Stiff Little Fingers, The Futureheads, New Model Army and The Selecter on the Saturday. 8. Sunderland International Airshow, July
Sunderland's biggest annual event, which ploughs hundreds of thousands of pounds into the economy, had to be cancelled this year, but the council have confirmed it will return next summer. It's usually held in the last weekend in July. Photo: JPI Media
