An overhead line problem has caused the cancellation of Metro services between Sunderland and South Tyneside.

The service has Tweeted that there are no trains in either direction between South Hylton and East Boldon.

Services were initially suspended this morning, before a limited service was introduced.

Now all trains have been cancelled again.

Ticket acceptance is in operation on Go North East services 9, 35, 35A and 56 between Gateshead and Sunderland and 24 between South Shields and Sunderland and Stagecoach 8, 10, 11, 18 and 20 in the affected area.

Network Rail engineers are on site and working to restore power.
