Racist abuse hurled at pensioner on Wearside street

Youngsters hurled racist abuse at a woman in her 60s in a frightening incident on a Wearside street.

Police are appealing for information after the incident last Tuesday in Hetton-le-Hole.

It happened at about 8.55pm on Front Street.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "A group of youths were gathered in the street when racist comments were repeatedly shouted at a 65-year-old woman in the street.

"Officers are carrying out inquiries in to the incident and are keen to identify who was in the group of youths.

"Anyone with information should contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 1088 210217 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
