Meet the diamond couple still sparkling after 60 years together

Sylvia and Bob Berston have hit the huge milestone of their Diamond Wedding.

The Red House couple, who tied the knot in St Mary the Virgin’s Church in the city, are well known and loved in the community.

Daughter, Kim Berston, said her parents met when they were very young when they went to The Rink with their friends and have been inseparable ever since.

Sylvia, 82, and 81-year-old Bob, held a tea party with their family to celebrate their big day.

The couple have two daughters, four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Kim said she and her sister, Jill Hendry, were blessed to have such amazing parents and her dad, who worked for engineering firm, Hepworth and Grandage, even won a Dad of the Year competiton in Sunderland after they entered him.

She said: “They are absolutely amazing, wonderful people. They have been the most wonderful parents we could have wished for.”

Kim revealed Bob and Sylvia are still very much in love and share a very special bond.

She added: “It is just wonderful to see the way they still are together. I look at them every day and it just makes my heart smile.

“They are so loving and still make each other laugh all the time, they are so happy together.”

The couple, have lived their entire married life in Red House, now in a bungalow in Rawdon Road, and Kim says everyone on the estate knows them.

She said: “They are so well known for the way they are, so happy together.”
