Sunderland Coastguard has issued a warning to the public to be aware of tide times when walking on beaches.
A Sunderland Coastguard spokesman said: “People walking on beaches, especially beneath cliffs, should always take steps to be aware of cut off points, identify escape routes and have knowledge of tide times.
"In all coastal emergencies dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
