Man arrested on suspicion of GBH after suspected stabbing in Houghton

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to Burns Avenue South, in Houghton, after a man suffered serious injuries ‘consistent with a stabbing’ when a fight broke out between two men.
Northumbria Police has now confirmed a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.

Hide AdHe has since been released on police bail as an investigation into the incident continues.
A 26-year-old man was taken to hospital with ‘serious but non life-threatening injuries’ following the incident.
A force spokesman said: “Shortly after 1.10pm on Tuesday, July 21, police received a report of a fight on Burns Avenue South, Houghton.
“It was reported two men, believed to be known to each other, were fighting inside an address resulting in one of the men sustaining serious but none life threatening injuries consistent with a stabbing.

Hide Ad“Enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
Witnesses reported seeing the Great North Air Ambulance land nearby as paramedics treated the injured man.
A spokeswoman for the air ambulance said: “Our team was activated at 1.26pm to an area near Houghton to reports of a stabbing.
"Our team arrived on scene at 1.39pm with a paramedic and doctor team to assist and treat a patient.
“The patient was taken to hospital by road.”
