Air ambulance called after suspected stabbing in Houghton
An investigation has been launched after a man suffered serious injuries in a suspected stabbing in Houghton.
Emergency services, including the Great North Air Ambulance, were called to reports of a fight involving two men at an address in Burns Avenue South, Houghton, shortly after 1pm today (Tuesday, July 21).
One man suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries ‘consistent with a stabbing’, Northumbria Police say.

Man suffers serious injuries in suspected stabbing
Northumbria Police are investigating after a man suffered serious injuries when a fight broke out in Houghton.
Emergency services were called at 1.10pm after a fight broke out between two men, who are believed to be known to one another.
One of the men suffered serious injuries consistent with a stabbing.
Air ambulance called to the scene
Witnesses say the air ambulance landed nearby after emergency services were called to the suspected stabbing shortly after 1pm this afternoon.
The North East Ambulance Service has confirmed they request support from the air ambulance although it is not yet known if anyone was airlifted to hospital.
Statement from Northumbria Police
A police spokeswoman said: "Shortly after 1.10pm today (Tuesday), police received a report of a fight on Burns Avenue South, Houghton.
"It was reported two men, believed to be known to each other, were fighting inside an address resulting in one of the men sustaining serious but none life threatening injuries consistent with a stabbing.
“Enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
North East Ambulance Service statement
A spokeswoman for the service said: "We were called at 1.16pm to a patient injured at a private address in the New Town are of Houghton.
“We dispatched a number of resources and requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance.”

Great North Air Ambulance statement
A spokeswoman said: "Our team was activated at 1.26pm to an area near Houghton to reports of a stabbing.
"Our team arrived on scene at 1.39pm with a paramedic and doctor team to assist and treat a patient.
“The patient was taken to hospital by road.”
No details regarding arrests
There has been no details released as to whether anyone has been arrested in relation to the suspected stabbing.
