Travel back in time with 1940s weekend of reenactments and more
It’s the 9th year of the event.
From battle reenactments to war time tunes, an event will whisk people to the 1940s this weekend.

Springwell Village is hosting its ninth annual 1940s Weekend, an event which has grown into a village-wide event, attracting people from across Sunderland, Washington and further afield.
There’s activities taking place on Friday, June 12, Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14 with free parking and a shuttle bus running through the village.
There’s a whole host of entertainment and attractions, including the chance to get a 1940s hairstyle, enjoy community choirs and a 1940s dance, a field kitchen, petting zoo and even a victory dog show, as well as food traders, stalls and live music across the three days.
Participating venues include Springwell Village Community Venue, Bowes Railway, Springwell Social Club, The Guidepost, Springwell Methodist Church, Springwell Village Primary School and more.
Colin Liddle, Event Manager at Community Opportunities, said: "It is fantastic to see families, neighbours, businesses, schools and community groups all coming together to celebrate and create such a great event. The local schools and youth clubs get involved and ensure our younger residents engage in our history and community spirit.
“One of the really special things about this weekends event is the way it brings generations together, sharing stories, remembering the past, and creating new memories for the future!"
Funding from Washington Area Committee has helped with this year’s event, with help from staff and volunteers at Bowes Railway, Community Opportunities and Springwell Village Community Venue.
