Sunderland stage school pupils dare to dream on big stage
Talented youngsters from Sunderland-based Kathleen Knox School of Dance are limbering up for their summer show.
The school will be performing Dare to Dream at Tyne Theatre and Opera House, Newcastle, on Saturday, July 20.
A cast of around 100 will bring to life songs and dances from a variety of musicals including Cats, Evita and The Greatest Showman through to the more recent Hamilton, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie and Mary Poppins Returns.
Pupils ranging in age from three years to 50+ will perform a variety of numbers ranging from classical ballet, tap and musical theatre through to contemporary modern. This
year’s show will also feature a tribute to the iconic choreographer Bob Fosse, so there will be something to suit everyone.
Kathleen Knox, principal, said: “The pupils have worked very hard again this year. Once again we’ve had great exam results with pupils being invited to audition for scholarships due to their exam success. Individuals and groups have excelled in regional competitions and will be competing nationally later in the year.

“Pupils have also performed in regional productions of Aladdin and Evita and immediately following our show they will be joining the cast of Shrek at the Tyne Theatre.
“One of our former pupils is currently touring in Kinky Boots, whilst others are enjoying professional careers around the world starring in productions such as Jersey Boys.
“I’m delighted to welcome back my former pupil Michael Brown who will be making a guest appearance before joining the cast of Saturday Night Fever. The audience will
also be able to enjoy a special performance by Shireen Gale who recently played the lead role in Evita at Durham Gala Theatre.
“The pupils always receive positive comments about how professional their performances are and we are absolutely committed to giving our audience a great show that will leave them smiling.”
