Sunderland band Ryder set to rock the new Saltgrass Summer Festival at historic pub

There’s a whole programme of food, music and entertainment at one of the city’s oldest pubs.

They’ve been hailed as one of Sunderland’s most exciting new bands - and you can catch them live at a new festival.

Sunderland band Ryder will be the first live band to take to the stage at The Saltgrass in Deptford this summer, as the historic pub launches a new programme of live music, DJ nights and food events as part of its Summer Festival.

Fresh from a recent Top 20 chart entry and a sold-out show at Independent, Ryder are currently riding a wave of momentum. Their headline appearance at The Saltgrass on Friday 26 June is expected to sell out.

The Saltgrass team have installed a large marquee in the pub grounds, initially created as a weather-proof fan zone for screening World Cup matches.

Following strong interest, the team decided to expand the programme and make fuller use of the space throughout the summer, with a series of live concerts, DJ nights and food-led events.

Kelly Rumney from The Saltgrass said:“Ryder are one of the most exciting bands coming out of Sunderland right now, so we’re delighted to have them kicking off our live band programme.

“The marquee was originally about creating a brilliant space for the football, but it quickly became clear we could do much more with it. We want The Saltgrass to be a proper summer destination for live music, great food and good times.”

Other confirmed acts over the coming weeks include 90s tribute favourites Jamagotchi, punk legends 1977 alongside Red London and Slalom D.

The festival programme begins on Friday 12 June with a DJ night from The Stockton Road Hit Squad, followed by an all-day NE Food Social on Saturday 13 June, featuring food vans from Wildfire Pizza, Arigato, Mexico 70 and Ryan McVay.

The Saltgrass Summer Festival will continue across the summer, with further music, food and entertainment announcements expected soon.
