Stack Sunderland: all the bars, street food stalls and shops in Seaburn’s shipping container village

Using more than 60 containers, a two-story “village” was created, featuring shops on the ground floor and a range of bars and restaurants above.

This spring, the same concept will be coming to Sunderland – a brand new “container village” with all kinds of food and drink available.

Stack’s street food spots will cater for everyone, with culinary styles from all around the world and plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians. Here’s what you need to know.

What food and drink outlets are there?

Boojie Burger

Boojie Burger, a staple of Stack’s Newcastle venture, will offer a wide menu of delicious bun-meat combos, such as the Scottish Haggis Burger, the American-style Empire State Burger and the slightly more experimental Katsu Burger.

Acropolis

Acropolis will add a taste of Greece, featuring popular dishes, such as souvlaki, halloumi fries and gyros on the menu.

Chapo Taco

Mexican street food specialists Chapo Taco will be bringing their tasty wares to Stack.

The family-run business prides itself on fresh, healthy versions of classic Mexican dishes.

Healthy Thaim

Sticking to the theme of exotic street food with a nutritious twist, Healthy Thaim will be bringing some of Thailand’s finest dishes to Sunderland’s shipping container town.

Already an established part of Sunderland’s food scene thanks to their Thornley Road outlet, Healthy Thaim has been such a hit that they will be expanding out to Stack this spring.

The hit health spot offers tasty, low-fat dishes as well as a tailored meal-preparation service.

Downey’s Fish and Chips

Nothing hits the comfort food spot quite like a good fish supper.

Award-winning Downey’s Fish and Chips will offer everything from langoustines, to scampi, lemon sole, plaice and good old-fashioned cod and haddock fillets.

Cafe Yolo

Cafe Yolo is the latest venture from the team behind Newcastle’s popular Yolo Townhouse and Yolo Ponteland.

They pride themselves on their delicious premium coffee and delicious tray bakes. More than that though, Yolo aims to offer an “exciting social experience” at all of its venues.

If the weather gets too warm, you can switch to a frappe or an iced tea whereas if things get really chilly, they’ve also got a range of tasty hot chocolates to warm you back up.

What other outlets could still be confirmed?

There are plenty more vendors still to be confirmed, with Stack planning to bring Lebanese, Turkish, Indian, Korean, Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine together for a varied street food experience.

As well as the various eateries, Sunderland’s shipping village will feature a range of shops selling all kinds of different products.

While the identities of most of the retailers remain shrouded in mystery, we do know of one who’ll definitely feature - Woofs n Scruffs.

This canine paradise will serve as a doggy daycare (although the whole of the Stack will be dog-friendly) as well as providing grooming services, training and a store.

When does it open?

Although no exact date has been given yet, Stack Sunderland is set to open for business in spring 2020.
