Poppy Run 5k heading to South Shields for 2022 - and your dog can take part too

A popular run remembering the fallen and helping support veterans is coming to South Shields ahead of Remembrance Day.

The Poppy Run events, organised by the Royal British Legion, take place around the UK offering the chance to get involved in a fun run while raising money for past and present servicemen and women.

South Shields is one of a number of locations taking part, with the event here taking place on The Leas on Sunday, October 30 at 10am.

Organisers say the 5k run is designed for families and is open to people of all ages and abilities no matter their level of running – even dogs can join in too.

Adult entry is just £15, and children are free. Those taking part are asked to raise as much as they can the Poppy Appeal and help the Royal British Legion continue to support veterans with vital services.

Entry costs £15 and includes a medal, t-shirt to wear on the day, and a commemorative medallion for those who reach £200 fundraising money.

The Legion said its team offer support on fundraising, including offering resources and ideas.

In 2021 the Royal British Legion marked 100 years of service, and celebrated the return of Poppy Appeal collectors local communities after the pandemic.

The organisation said without them and support from the public, it would not be able to continue supporting serving and ex-serving men and women and their families.
