From muddy madness to puddle jumping and a family rave, there’s plenty to keep the kids – as well as the big kids at heart – entertained this February half-term
We’ve rounded up some of the best things to do with the family around the North East, from day trips to activities closer to home.
1. Build a bird box at Souter Lighthouse
Souter Lighthouse is hosting a range of half-term activities including Build A Bird Box sessions on Monday 17, Tuesday 18 & Thursday 20 February from 11am-3.30pm. Sessions are for young people aged four to 11 and will be held upstairs in the education room. The cost is £5 and there's no need to book, just drop in.

2. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Sunderland Empire, February 18-22
Family musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, is at Sunderland Empire from February 18-22. Britain’s Got Talent 2019 finalist, Mark McMullan, dons Joseph’s famous coat of many colours to perform tracks such as Go, Go, Go Joseph, Any Dream Will Do, Close Every Door To Me and more in this great introduction to musical theatre for youngsters.

3. Sculpture making and more, Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens
There are plenty of fun, free, events to get creative with the family and keep the little ones busy at Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens this half term. Get hands-on with sculpture-making, collage or painting workshops throughout the week, taking inspiration from a new art exhibition celebrating age and creativity - Received Wisdom. On Monday 17 February at various times there will be free drop in sessions for youngsters aged four and over where they can create their own self portraits. You can also visit new art exhibition, Received Wisdom, and learn all about the artworks through drawing activities, sensory backpack trails and discussions with the learning team. There are also a number of fun relaxed activity sessions designed for families with children with disabilities and/or additional needs including autistic spectrum conditions.

4. Hallé Magic, Arts Centre Washington
Hallé Magic is at Arts Centre Washington on Monday 24th February at various times for youngsters aged 2- 5. Introduce your child to the magic of orchestral music with the world famous Hallé Orchestra. The Hallé Magic Box is packed with toys and props to discover songs and rhymes, musical movements and games. Afternoon sessions also available at The Fire Station in Sunderland.
