9. Mamma Mia, September 8-19
Super Troupers are in for a treat when hit musical Mamma Mia! plays at Sunderland Empire for a two week-run. 10. Sunny Afternoon, September 22-26
It’s been announced that The Kinks musical Sunny Afternoon is returning to Sunderland Empire in 2020. Sonia Friedman Productions and Ambassador Theatre Group Productions have announced that the multi Olivier Award-winning hit will return for its second UK tour, opening at the Manchester Opera House in August 2020, and running at Sunderland Empire from September 22-26, 2020. 11. Strictly Ballroom, October 26-31
New musical Strictly Ballroom is waltzing its way to Wearside. Baz Luhrmann’s smash hit Strictly Ballroom the Musical is set to sweep audiences off their feet with the announcement of a 2020/2021 tour, which will see it play Sunderland Empire for the first time from October 26-31. 12. The Phantom of the Opera, November 4 - December 5
Huge musical The Phantom of the Opera will play for a month-long run in the latest theatre coup for Sunderland Empire. The Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh show rarely tours, but the original production will be hitting the road for a UK and Ireland tour with a run on Wearside from Wednesday, November 4 until Saturday, December 5, 2020 – the only North East date on the tour.
