Although Sunderland City Council’s family firework display has been cancelled due to fears surround the spread of coronavirus, there is still plenty to do around the city.

Let There Be Crumbs, on Roker Terrace, has tickets on sale for a family friendly New Year’s party.

The Roker Hotel site is promising fun for all ages thanks to a buffet of the tea room’s best food and a disco throughout the night between 7pm on New Year’s Eve through to 2am on New Year’s Day.

Plenty of bars and clubs are also offering New Year extravaganzas with Trilogy, on Green Terrace, boasting that they are the only venue open until 5:30am to ring in 2022.

Nearby, a series of bars are teaming up to give the city a night to remember, with Streetbar SR1, Victoria’s Loft and The Rabbit all offering free entry as part of a mini bar crawl between 7pm and 4am.

The event will begin at the new sports bar on Low Row before moving upstairs to Victoria’s Loft for the countdown with those looking to stay out able to head to The Rabbit to continue the celebrations.

No booking or entry fees are required.

One of Sunderland’s newest restaurants is also putting together new year plans.

Proven People, on Burdon Road, will welcome their resident DJs for a night of bottomless drink and food deals.

The restaurant already has a series of bottomless deals, but nothing quite like the five hours they are promising with “free flowing” drinks from 9pm until 2am. This deal costs £45 and can be booked by contacting the venue.

Just around the corner on Holmeside, Independent will welcome back their New Year house party event. The music venue and club will be decorated as a kitchen, bedrooms and sitting rooms. Advance tickets cost £7.

Another prominent New Year’s Eve event comes from Club Pharmacy on Vine Place where they are welcoming a host of local DJs to see in 2022. Tickets cost £15 and are available online.
