The post punk four-piece from Sunderland will perform a special acoustic show as part of New Beginnings, marking the moment live audiences return to the venue on Saturday, June 5.

Featuring a mix of acoustic and a cappella song arrangements and intricate four-part vocal harmonies, the show is set to be a celebration of live music returning to the region.

From June 5 socially-distanced audiences will be able to come together in Sage Gateshead’s world-class concert hall for the final concerts in the New Beginnings series, which will also be live streamed to enjoy at home.

Wendy Smith, director of contemporary music at Sage Gateshead, said: “I am really delighted that once again a band, from the North East, will be playing to live audiences in Sage One. What a moment after a very tough year.

" Everyone has missed that amazing buzz and the excitement that live music creates, and it feels really appropriate that our New Beginnings series sees us welcoming audiences in to the hall. Safety will be of course be our top priority and we hope people will have a great night out.”

Barry Hyde, lead vocalist of The Futureheads, said: "We are excited and delighted to be playing our first post lockdown gig at Sage Gateshead in the hallowed Hall 1.

"Like all artists we have a huge amount of steam to let off after the last 16 months and we always love playing our a capella/acoustic material as it lends itself to intimate, jovial atmosphere and is technically challenging and tremendous fun."

Before the main show, audiences can extend their night out with a free ticket to see singer songwriter Jodie Nicholson, another North East artist, on the concourse at Sage Gateshead.

The safety of audiences, artists and staff is Sage Gateshead’s number one priority, and so social distancing will be maintained at the venue, building on the measures put in place successfully last autumn for SageLive2020.

*The Futureheads play Sage Gateshead on June 5 at 8pm. Concert tickets are £19.80; Live Stream from £9.90. Visit https://sagegateshead.com/
