The annual event, which attracts thousands for a day of family fun and live music, originated in Thompson Park before moving to Seaburn Recreation ground to coincide with the Tall Ships Races in 2018 and then Cliffe Park last year.

Although a full line-up had not yet been announced, the free event was expected to return to the seafront this July.

An announcement on the event’s social media channels reads: “Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus crisis, we’re sad to say we won’t be able to stage Summer Streets 2020 in its usual way.

“However, we’re working hard behind the scenes and we’re determined to bring some performances and activities to you this July in a different form. Watch this space.”
