South Tyneside Festival: Dates revealed for Bents Park gigs and Summer Parade in South Shields

Families looking to enjoy fun in the sun this summer can start making plans as some key dates for this year’s South Tyneside Festival are revealed.

Run by South Tyneside Council, the annual event brings together concerts, live performances and children’s entertainment across the borough, with a variety of different shows running between June and August.

And at the festival’s heart are the ever-popular free concerts at Bents Park in South Shields, which have previously featued Billy Ocean, Pixie Lott and Scouting for Girls.

A bit of sunshine has been sprinkled on our January as the dates for the famous concerts are confirmed by the council, as well as the time for the free Summer Parade.

When are the concerts taking place?

This year’s free concerts in Bents Park will be taking place between Sunday, July 12 and Sunday August 2.

The dates will be Sunday, July 12; Sunday, July 19; Sunday, July 26 and Sunday; August 2.

Last year’s headliners across four weekends were Marti Pellow, The Lightning Seeds, Phats & Small, Midge Ure, Nick Heyward and Gabrielle.

What about the Summer Parade?

Another highlight of the festival programme, always packed with fantastic things to see and do, the 2020 Summer Parade has been confirmed as taking place on Saturday, July 4.

Last year’s parade was created around the theme Space Fantasy, with colour displays and visitors lining the town centre.

More than 2,000 people took part, with loads more watching from the sidelines.

“The performers we have had in the past have seen people travel from across Europe to see their favourite acts, which is a great way for us to showcase what we have to offer.

“The Summer Parade is a true community event with thousands of young people taking part and we are looking forward to once again having an amazing day.”
