Pokemon Sword and Shield: how to get every Gigantamax Pokemon returning to the game on Nintendo Switch ahead of Isle of Armor expansion

A new in-game event for Pokémon Sword and Shield on the Nintendo Switch will make getting your hands on Gigantamax Pokémon that much easier in the month of June

From 2 June, developers Game Freak are bringing back every Pokémon to have been given the Gigantamax treatment to this point.

Here’s everything you need to know:

When does the event run?

The event began on 2 June, and will be running all month until Monday 29 June.

What does it entail?

During the event, the frequency of Gigantamax variants of Pokémon appearing in Max Raid Battles will be increased for players.

To enter into a Max Raid Battle, you’ll first need to connect your Nintendo Switch to the internet.

Then, look out for pillars of light shining emanating from a Pokémon Den in the Wild Area – interacting with it will begin a fight.

Which Gigantamax Pokémon will be available?

During the event, there will be some Pokémon only available in each version of the game, so players with a copy of Pokémon Sword and will see different Pokémon from those with a copy of .Shield

You'll find Gigantamax versions of these in Pokémon Sword:

- Gengar​

- Duraludon

- Corviknight

- Appletun​

- Kingler​

- Lapras​

- Garbodor​

- Toxtricity (Amped)​

- Centiskorch​

- Grimmsnarl​

- Alcremie

You'll find Gigantamax version of these in Pokémon Shield:

- Charizard

- Machamp

- Orbeetle

- Drednaw

- Coalossal

- Flapple

- Sandaconda

- Toxtricity (Low-key form)

- Hatterene

- Copperajah

When is the new DLC out?

The new event comes just days before the first of two new Expansion Passes that will unlock new areas, features, items and moves that weren't previously available in the games.

The first expansion takes players to The Isle of Armour, which Nintendo describes as a "giant island full of environments not seen in Galar before," where you'll find wave-swept beaches, forests, bogs, caves, and sand dunes.

Both expansions are bundled together for £26.99, but you'll want to be careful when making your purchase on the Nintendo eShop.

You'll need to buy the bundle that corresponds to the game you already own, so double check you have the right one before you confirm your transaction.

Game Freak will also be debuting some brand new Pokémon with the Sword and Shield expansions; Kubfu and its evolved form Urshifu will appear exclusively in The Isle of Armor.

The Isle of Armour will be available to explore from 17 June.
