6. Washington Wetland Centre
Families can discover the wonder of wetlands this summer, with an adventure-packed timetable of Wetland Explorer activities throughout the holidays. Designed to teach valuable skills while having fun outdoors, these interactive challenges will reconnect visitors young and old with nature through wild play and exploration. Entry costs £11.15 or £10.13 without giftaid for adults, £9.50 or £8.63 for concessions (65+, disabled, full-time student and unemployed), £6.40 or £5.81 for chilren aged betwee 4-16 years.

7. Down at the Farm, near Houghton

8. Take a stroll at Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve
Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve is back open. Stoat, weasel, brown hare and roe deer are regularly seen and the wetlands attract numerous dragonflies and damselflies. Butterfly numbers are also high, particularly grassland species. The coffee shop is also open for takeaway treats for your stroll.
