Sent by his friends, comedians Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the trip forces the reluctant traveller to sample the local food, try his hand at kung fu and experience a traditional Chinese massage.

Pilkington also casts his famously blunt verdict on The Great Wall of China, although the impressive site doesn't quite live up to expectations.

Later in the series, Pilkington heads to see the remaining Wonders of the World, including the Taj Mahal, Christ the Redeemer and the Great Pyramids.

When is it on TV?

The first episode of the first season will air tonight on Sky One at 9pm.
