Further works this month include the re-surfacing of parts of the A690 Durham Road at Thornholme junction.

Throughout the coming weeks, re-surfacing work will also be carried out at Heworth Road, Barnes Park Road and Silksworth Road.

These surfacing works are the final phase of the £5.25 million Highway Maintenance Programme that started in April 2020 and will be completed by the end of March 2021.

The council’s deputy leader Councillor Paul Stewart said: "One of this council's key priorities is investing in our city's transport network and infrastructure.

"Highway maintenance and re-surfacing across the city are part of this priority for improving the city’s roads.

"For resurfacing work such as this, we look to complete these overnight or on Sundays so that disruption is minimised."

Funding for the works is provided through the council’s Local Transport Plan and Incentive Fund allocation, its capital budget and the Government’s Pothole fund.

By the end of the current financial year in March, the council will have completed more than 220 separate schemes across the city’s roads and footways.
