The academy graduate has become the eighth Heed player to commit to the National League North club over the last ten days.

Forbes progressed through the Gateshead College system and impressed sufficiently during his time with the club’s under-19s side to sign his first professional contract in the summer of 2018.

Forbes continued to catch the eye during a loan spell at Northern League club Newcastle Benfield and the 21-year-old returned to the International Stadium to feature under former Heed managers Steve Watson and Ben Clark.

He has continued to be a key part of Mike Williamson’s plans since the former Newcastle United defender took up a player-manager role.

Forbes will now extend his time in the first-team into a third season and his versatility will be a key asset for the former Magpies centre-back after he impressed in defence and midfield last season.

After agreeing his new deal, Forbes thanked the Heed Army for getting behind the club after the supporter-led budget booster reached its initial £10,000 target.

“I am really happy to be signing at Gateshead for another season,” explained Forbes.

“I think it will be good to see where the lads can end up because I think everyone at the club is pulling in the same direction, which is really good to see.”

Preston has followed in the footsteps of Greg Olley, JJ O’Donnell, Alex Nicholson, Jordan Preston, Sam Guthrie, Ruairi Keating and Danny Greenfield in signing a new deal with the Heed.
