This former Sunderland striker will be returning to Wearside in 2020/21 after claiming promotion

West, who is the assistant manager at the Sixfields Stadium, was born in Wallsend and began his professional career at Roker Park in 1980.

He went on to make over 120 appearances for the Black Cats, scoring 28 times, before departing for Watford in 1985.

The former frontman later went on to play for the likes of Swansea City, Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday in a successful playing career before turning his hand to coaching.

And having teamed-up with long-term partner Keith Curle at Northampton in 2018, West has now helped the Cobblers to promotion after they eased past Exeter City in the League Two play-off final.

Goals from Ryan Watson, Callum Morton, Will Hoskins and Andy Williams sealed a 4-0 win – meaning it will be Northampton who face Sunderland next season.
