The hit Netflix documentary followed the Black Cats through the first season after their relegation from the Premier League in 2017, with a second series chronicling their subsequent drop into League One.
Reflecting on his involvement in the first season, Grayson revealed he was still contracted by Netflix to do interviews two months after he’d been axed, shell-shocked Grayson was sacked within minutes of FT whistle following a 3-3 draw with Bolton Wanderers in October 2017.

Hide AdGrayson, speaking to the Dev Bajwa YouTube channel, said: "When you look at some of the other different documentaries, Leeds, Tottenham, City, they are being made by their own football clubs.
"The Sunderland one was by Sunderland fans but they weren't part of the club, if you look at the other ones, the editing can be made to make the clubs look really well.
"You are not involved in any say of the final product.
"To the point that when I left, I was still contracted to do certain parts, two months later I was doing interviews in London in a hotel, three different rooms, three different shirts and they want me to talk passionately about Sunderland when I had been sacked two months earlier
"Ultimately the documentary was a good opportunity for people to see what it is like behind the scenes of a really big football club and a troubled one and the circumstances us as managers had to deal with on a regular basis, every minute of the day, some sort of problem."
