And what a roller coaster ride it has been for Sunderland fans since then.
There’s been three trips to Wembley, some wonder goals to remember and the six in a row saga continuing.
There was the great escape of 2014, Big Sam’s reign, a match to remember at home to Chelsea in 2016, another against Everton and two finals in a row in 2019.
There were two relegations and much more besides. Let’s take a look.
