Cattermole departed the Dutch side following the end of the Eredivise season, having joined VVV after leaving Sunderland last summer.

While his time in Holland was brought to a premature end, he remains a fond fan favourite among the Venlo supporters – and the midfielder has now offered to donate season tickets to the club’s supporters as part of a wider campaign to help supporters who may be struggling financially.

Other former VVV players, including Maya Yoshida and Keisuke Honda, have also taken part in the campaign.

Cattermole is the latest name to pledge his support, and sent a message to the club’s supporters via social media.

He said: “I just wanted to send a quick message to thank you for your support last season.

“I’m disappointed we didn’t get to finish the season, but I had a wonderful year with you and you have got a fantastic football club with some amazing people there.

“I will continue to support the club with you in future. Therefore, I would like to donate some season tickets for you supporters and I will hopefully see you at a game soon. Good luck, and take care.”

Cattermole is currently without a club ahead of the 2020/21 season, having told talkSPORT earlier this year that he would keep his options open as to his next move.
