10 players YOU wish Sunderland had signed - the deals that never happened despite strong links
And many players seem to have been continuously talked about in regards to a move to Wearside over a number of years without much actually happening.
Which, as we know, is always a massive frustration for passionate fans in the North East.
On our Facebook page, we asked Sunderland fans for the player the Black Cats were constantly linked with but never actually signed.
Here, we take a look at the results:

1. Robbie Keane
Sunderland even agreed a fee with Leeds United for Robbie Keane back in 2002. The deal fell through but the links didn't stop there with the Republic of Ireland international heavily linked with a move to Wearside throughout his career, Photo: Catherine Ivill

2. Marcus Maddison
The former Peterborough United, Charlton Athletic, Hull City and Bolton Wanderers attacker has been repeatedly linked with a move to Sunderland following the club's drop into League One. Photo: Charlotte Tattersall

3. Peter Crouch
Peter Crouch recently revealed just how close he came to making the move to Sunderland in 2009 and stated that he “really fancied” making the move to the North East. The deal didn't happen but the Wearsiders continued to be linked with Crouch. Photo: Catherine Ivill

4. Moussa Sow
Sunderland were said to be edging closer to completing a move for forward Moussa Sow in 2015. But, for whatever reason, the transfer didn't come off. Photo: Chris McGrath
